Halloween 2014

Halloween was fun this year! We didn't really have any parties or plans, so we just did whatever we wanted! A couple nights before Halloween we carved our pumpkins. Instead of doing two separate ones, we joined forces and made this little skeleton man! He turned out pretty good! And good thing we carved him only a couple days before Halloween because he literally fell apart the morning after Halloween. He was nice and soft...

This was our first year with a house on Halloween. Matson was very excited to answer the door for trick or treaters. We weren't home very long before we left to visit our family, but he still had fun answering the door. We were home less than an hour and had a good amount of trick or treaters! When we left, Matson thought it would be hilarious to leave candy on the porch. I thought it was dumb because one teenage kid would just take it all anyway, but Matson did it anyway. I was nice and left a sign on the door that said "Sorry we are out at a Halloween party!", so that a kid wouldn't just sit and ring the doorbell forever.

Matson and I get very into our costumes every year...well at least for a couple with no children and no big party to go to. This year was no exception. I started thinking about Halloween back in August and Matson told me that he wanted to choose what we were gonna be. He told me what he wanted and I started getting to work. After trying for some time to find what he wanted and to try and make my outfit that goes along with what he wanted to work...PLUS, I am prego. I don't think there will be that many Halloween's when I am 7 months pregnant.

So after my sister gave me a good prego costume idea, I gave up. It was so hard and I literally need like a whole year to prep for Matson's epic costume idea (look to next year's Halloween blog post to see what we end up being...I might give again but I think Matson would kill me so we will probably end up being what he wants). Anyway, we were Chuck Noland and Wilson the Volleyball from the movie Cast Away.

It was fun to make the costumes and then on Halloween we spent time with our little nephew trick or treating and then also eating my mama's homemade chili and watching Forensic Files with my sister, her husband, and my parents. My cute little niece was the most adorable scuba diver. It was the perfect costume for her because she loooooves her pacifier and so her pacifier was part of her costume as the thing scuba people breathe through (I have no idea what they are called...probably something as simple as a "mouth piece"). Our nephew was Thor and was the cutest little trick or treater. He would just drop his bucket on the porch, step back, and say thank you as he walked away.

Baby A* wouldn't look at the camera, so Matson mimicked her in this pick. All dress up in her cute scuba costume!

The Annual Donut Party

Every year my family has a Halloween Donut Party. We invite the neighborhood, family, and friends and just chit chat and big out. The donuts are the best and homemade by all of us. It is quite the process but sooooo worth it. Here are a few snapshots from our Halloween Donut Party for 2012.

Matson took a nap with Rookie (our little dressed up Tootsie Roll)
while we labored in the kitchen. Psshhh..LAZY.

The flavors: cinnamon sugar, maple, and glazed.

My personal favorite. The Maple!
My friend A* was a baller and took over cooking.

As always the donut party was a family hit even though we all left with a huge stench of FRIED FOOD. I hate that smell bytheway. YUCK. I think I washed my hair like 5 times and it still smelled the day after. DOUBLE YUCK.

Halloween 2012

I spent my Halloween Day at the elementary school I have been in for the last week. I will be there a couple more weeks for my major. It has been such a great experience already and Halloween was much more exciting and fun celebrating it in elementary school again. We had a marshmallow fight, played Halloween bingo, frosted cookies, played ghost bowling (toilet paper as the pins), did multiple halloween crafts and all learning was Halloween themed.

After school, Matson and I quickly got changed into our Halloween costume. It was seriously the easiest Halloween costume we have done yet. We both wore suits, Romney buttons, he wore a mask, and I wore a wig (same wig as the time when I was Heidi Klum). Super easy. Especially the suit I had just gotten from my Grandma for my birthday...it was a little big but the red was perfect!

Mitt and Ann Romney
And I will let you know...a lot of people greeted me by saying, "Look! It's the first lady." Not quite...but that's cool! Matson loved his costume. Many people just wanted pictures with us - "We gotta get a shot with the Romneys" - so Matson felt like a celebrity.

Just cruising around with Mitt for the night.
The people I nanny for have a Halloween party every year and since I haven't seen them for a week (due to working in a school for my major) we decided to go. All the little kids and cousins at the party did not like Matson's mask at all. Little A* in her sweet little voice kept saying to Matson, "I don't like your mask." Matson would ask her if she was going to vote for him and she would reply, "Nope." Too cute.
Buzz Lightyear was still not into Matson's mask.
We then went to our church's little trunk or treat party. All the kids there would walk up to our car, look at Matson's costume, and immediately start slowly walking backwards. They did not like his mask. I agree with them...it's a little creepy. One of the little boys in my primary class came to our trunk to trick or treat and I said, "Hi bud!! Do you know who I am?" He had no idea and as soon as I took my wig off he said, "Hi teacher!" Apparently blonde hair makes me look like a whole new person.

At the trunk or treat with one of my primary kids. He wouldn't smile.
Halloween is suppose to be serious or scary?
We ended our night by visiting our families and enjoying some treats. I got some good playing time in with out little nephew. He was dressed up as a little shark.

Matson's brother was a secret service guy so we had to snap a shot with him.

Haunting Dance Moves

We went to our annual Thriller Dance Show put on by Odyssey Dance Company, with Matson's sister and her hubby along with some of their fun friends. I love Thriller and it really brings out the halloween spirit in me. We really enjoy it. Definitely take advantage of the buy one ticket, get one free (for all students--don't forget your ID cards).

Halloween Festivities.

I could post about each detail and little super fun thing. But I am just going mash it all into one small ish post.

Friday-We went with my brother T* and his wife to Cornbelly's at Thanksgiving Pointe. It was such a blast. First we ate at this random little fast food joint that my sis in law's dad invested in. Then we headed to Cornbelly's. I had never been and it was such a blast! And when I have kids I am totally going to plan a whole day there because there was so much to do: corn mazes, haunted mazes, play places, bouncy toys, bouncy trampoline like balloon things to jump on, hay pit, plastic duck races, pumpkin tetherball, jack-o-lantern tower, tractors, swings, pig races, and seriously so much more. We went late at night so we didn't do it all but we enjoyed a lot!

Matson loved the HUGE rocking chair. Right when we first saw he said like a little child, "I want a picture on that."

All four of us as "Farm-tastic" Animals.
Matson on the bouncy trampoline like thing.

N*'s weird jump. Seriously we laughed so hard on this thing & were bouncing & playing around with these crazy group of young boys.
Pirate Ship Play Place. I will take an order of this in our future backyard.

Jack-O-Lanterns.

The guys counting off for their duck races.

Lassoing a pink cow.

Pumpkin Tetherball. This got quite intense. Matson's height seemed to be an advantage.
Saturday-We went to a fun Halloween party with friends. Beforehand we made some easy desserts, made our homemade Mario Kart in Battle Mode (with balloons), and then headed to the party! We had a blast - we ate yummy Cafe Rio style salads, ate desserts, costume contest, and played many games including Mafia, What Were You Thinking?, and Catch Phrase. Such a fun Party! Thanks to B* and E* for inviting us and all the work you put into it!
Mario & Luigi Mario Kart Battle Mode.

Homemade. Loved our costumes this year. So fun and really not hard to make!
I made those Rice Krispie Pumpkins off Pinterest

Along with some easy Pumpkin Cookies and my friend H* made these yummy ghosts.

Our good friends H* & K* (dressed as the Princess Bride), us, and N* & T* (dressed as Mrs. Butterworth's & a Waffle).
Like I said, we played some games at this party and it got very intense. I think like 97% of the people there are very competitive. We played Catch Phrase guys vs ladies. Ladies won of course.
The winners (I have no idea why I am hunched over so oddly) but hey we won!!

The poor losers.

Monday (Halloween Day)-School, school, school, normal day. But I didn't have work so I got to get some stuff done! Every Halloween my parents throw a Homemade Donut Halloween Party. the donuts are DELISH I only let myself have 2 or I get so sick. But they are so worth it. This year we made the usual glazed, cinnamon sugar, and added maple donuts. Maple were by far the best. It's lots of work to make the donuts but so much fun.
Making the donuts is quite the process: making dough (mama did that..thanks!), cutting out the donuts, frying the donuts, decorating/putting cinnamon sugar or maple or glaze onto the donuts.
Worst thing is I swear my hair still smells like grease. YUCK! I washed it like 3x Halloween night.
N* and I making some yummy donuts.

Hope your Halloween was as wonderful and fun as ours!
