a few {more} things i am loving

A couple weeks ago I shared some things I was loving. That was kind of fun to post about so I thought I would share some more things I am loving this week!

Maybe this will become a little series of posts...just maybe. I may get sick of telling you things I love each week and you probably don't give an ant's poop what little, weird things I love. Sooo let's not commit just yet.

1. Tea Time with Sophia Grace and Rosie (remember the little Nicki Minaj rapper and her back up dancer dressed in pink tutu's and tiaras?). This segment is hilarious and Taylor Swift is so precious with them. Nothing better than when they are CHOMPING down on their cookies and when Rosie talks all about her ex-boyfriend. If this doesn't make you laugh (or at least smile) then...go and remember "loads of jokes" or eat some "cotton caaandy."

2. My cheap, knock off watch. You know how Michael Kors watches are so in right now and I have so wanted one? Yeah, I love them so much, but I just can't justify paying 300+ for one watch that I wouldn't even use to actually tell me the time since I always use my phone, so it would serve as just a bracelet. So for New Year's Matson got me this jem of a watch and I have been wearing it lots lately, like daily.

3. Matson's Remote Controlled Helicopter. Not only does it supply us with some good entertainment, but it is dang hilarious to watch Rookie (my family's dog) chase that thing like it's a real life bird she wants to attack.

4. Glitter. Whether it be my glitter nails or my glitter Steve Madden heels. Finally wore them for the first time last week and now that I broke them in, I just know these jems will be worn frequently.

Me wearing them last week at the Utah Student 25 Gala

5. My phone's lock screen. You can download yours or another 1 of the 4 wallpaper options here.

This looks super fuzzy on here, but is perfect for the iPhone.

What are you loving lately? I would love to hear about them and feel free to put some good links to them in a comment for us all to see!

your job as a wife

part of your job as a wife is to clean out your husband's clothing or if you are not a wife and you are a woman this still is your job to do for your brothers, boyfriends, fathers, boy friends (notice the space between boy and friends...I was very particular about this pre-marriage years). I am sure that you remember when I talked about Matson's bird pecked/rat chewed underwear and socks here (July 1, 2011). This time ladies and gents, we are discussing the same such subject, yet this time it is his shoes. My husband wears holey shoes...he has a serious problem. He has a fear of saying goodbye to clothing items.

Our conversation in September:

Erica: Babe, I think it is time we get you some new shoes. Not like he only has one pair.
Matson: What are you talking about?
Erica: These. I point to his grey Forever 21 canvas shoes with holes in the sole!
Matson: There's nothing wrong with them, Erica.
Erica: There clearly is.
Matson: I will still wear them.
Erica: Too bad I am throwing them away. I walk slowly over to the trash can, shoes in hand.
Matson: (Insert stern voice) Do not throw those away. I will still wear them, I have like no shoes compared to you. Duh, I am a girl. Of course I have more shoes then you but none of mine have holes in them.
Erica: Ok whatever. Subject dropped due to the fact that I do have triple the amount of shoes as him and no way in heck I am giving any of mine away.

Well, ladies and gents, I am just here to report that as of Monday the 26th of December those shoes have been sitting outside in our trash can just waiting for Mr. Trash Man to come and take them to Trashland.
The wife did her job and finally threw those suckers away!
Thank goodness for Christmas gifts where he not only got 2 new pairs of shoes but 3!

Bye bye shoes!

Our General Conference Weekend

General Conference is like another holiday for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We spend time with family, eat traditional snacks and meals, and get to listen to wonderful stories/talks/inspiration!

I loved General Conference this October 2011! It was such a treat.

We watched Saturday together and in between session played pickle ball with my parents and sister. Then Sunday we watched morning and had breakfast with Matson's family then Afternoon with my family and my Sunday birthday dinner that I talked about ______ Anyway some stand out talks for me are:
  • Sister Elaine Dalton's Talk - I literally wrote a whole full page of notes about wonderful tips for parenting not just daughters and fathers but for mothers and all your children.
  • Elder Carl B. Cook's talk - This one still stand out because I loved the story he told about him seeing President Monson in the elevator. I love this quote and I think that I want to hang it in my house or in a little boy's room or something in the future that says, "It is better to look up!"
  • And of course, President Monson's fun first little happy intro. I was seriously laughing so hard that he got up a little late after the hymn and said, "Hello!...I wonder who I should call upon to substitute for me?" Such a great man, Matson and I kept saying how without really knowing him he makes you feel like you are best friends. He makes me feel like he is talking to ME and that every little joke is to make ME laugh. Matson also said that he felt like he could go sit one on one with him and talk about anything seriously anything with him. I think that is so true and that is a very Christlike attiribute.
For Saturday Priesthood Session slash BUSIEST TIME EVER AT THE MALL besides Christmas and Black Friday, my sister and my mom and I usually just eat a quick dinner or as some say a tip free dinner (Cafe Rio, Noodles & Co., or Rumbi's). We went to Rumbi's got our usually dishes. So we had our usual Priesthood Session din din but we did not do our usual activity. We usually make cards and watch a movie at home or go shopping at less busy shops like T.J Maxx or random strip mall like places. This October General Conference though we did not do the usually. We decided to go shopping at the mall during the BUSIEST TIME EVER AT THE MALL besides Christmas and Black Friday. At first I was not happy that my Mom had a return at the mall but MAN oh MAN, I am so glad we did because ladies and gents I scored big time! I found some of my newest favorite things ever!

My daring sister wears beautiful, daring outfits. I on the other hand am a little more classic. But she helped me to go out and try some on some of the new trends and some more daring colors and such. I loved everything I bought (with birthday money, thank goodness!). I seriously cannot wait to wear them all. But I haven't worn any of them yet because I feel this way:
I seriously feel this way! What if I wear a cute outfit and no one cares? Not that I need attention ok maybe just a few compliments don't kill...I think I need to post about this problem of mine of holding off on wearing new clothes. Anyway, hopefully I will wear all my new clothing items and share with you all about them and then you can high five me in the blogging or at least on my blogging world high five me=leave me a comment.
My sister and I waiting for the movie to start being weirdos?
All in all Conference was the best ever! With the yummy traditional Conference food, a fun movie Moneyball (we saw it after Priesthood session with the guys), family time, shopping, wonderful words (talks), and all the other traditions that go along with General Conference. This was my first year since my senior year in high school of taking notes and it really helped me to listen and pick out things that meant a lot to me.

I hope your Conference weekend was a wonderful weekend too!

White After Labor Day?

Question of the day for you all.

Is white after Labor Day old fashion or still a unwritten rule?

I am seeing people still wear white. I wore white the day right after Labor Day and am still wearing it.

Am I committing fashion suicide?

I think that it should be wear white until white comes (the snow).

Let me just say, I will be wearing white after every Labor Day (tastefully, of course).

Do you all agree? What's your thoughts?

Hey I put some NEW SHOES on and everybody's smilin', it's so invitin'

New Shoes. Good song, sung by Paulo Nutini.
But...

Don't you just love a brand new pair of clean, white tennis shoes?
Uhh...I do not.
It is so hard for me to get the guts to actually wear them because I think they are going to get so dirty.
Anyway, a couple nights ago I worked up the guts to wear these brand new shoes after owning them for over a year and a half. I don't really wear tennis shoes much in the summer anyway because I just wear sandals. But I told myself, "I am wearing these today!"

And hey guess what? They didn't come home super dirty and now that I have worn them once I will probably wear them a lot more!

I wore them to Matson's family Pioneer Day (it was actually the day after pioneer day-the 25th) Block Party.
Matson off course spilled on his shorts so he had to borrow some sport shorts.

It slowly got windy and cold. Don't you guys like my attempt to frown?
Matson with his little neighborhood buddy, J*! Such a cute little boy. He later started falling asleep on Matson's "comfy chest".

It started POURING. Yet for some reason we all stayed outside waiting for it to pass so we could do fireworks. That didn't happen. Matson and I stayed under a huge umbrella with cute little S*. When I have kids (when..not now) I want my little boys to be cute and easy going like S* and J*!
Happy Belated Pioneer Day!
And my advice for you today friends, get some guts and go wear your white tennis shoes (or your new white shorts or whatever in your closet still has a tag on it)!

Welcome to the 70's.

Like I have mentioned before, my sister and I have been cleaning out my mom's entire house. My parents have lived in the house they are currently living in for longer than any other house they have lived in so before my mom would just clean out every time we moved. But since it has been a decade (or possibly longer?) that they have lived in this house, she decided it was time to move or for a deep clean out. Moving wasn't an option...

This is where the "Welcome to the 70's" comes in. Where have these beauties been hiding?
My sister on the left is sporting the beautiful shirt my mother wore while she waited for my Dad on his mission. And I am sporting my mother's cheer shirt! So ballin'. This shirt is now in my closet instead of sitting in a box marked "Mom's Memorabilia".
My mother's very attractive cheer outfit. Jumper with overalls. So cool. And I can't forget to mention these little cheer statue versions of my Mom.
I know I have offered this idea before when we cleaned out my Grandma's house earlier this summer in this post, but people seriously go clean out your grandma's, mama's, aunt's, random neighbor's you get it whoever's closet slash house. It creates some true hilarious laughing moments and fun new things! Or you can just have a garage sale like my sister and I are having this weekend...Friday and Saturday. If you want the info let me know. Just comment with your email and I will email the times and address and such! Lots of good stuff. For reals. My family's junk could be your new shiny treasure.

Before I leave I thought I would leave you with one more picture treasure from cleaning out this past week. We were cleaning out my Dad's side of the closet it needed it badly...like 8 suits with dust an inch high and very outdated polos & such we were just throwing my dad's old clothes out of the closet when we found our little pup like this...

Advice Needed ASAP #2

So I need help again, friends. My beautiful friend J* is getting married mid August. I am one of her bridesmaids and I need a light pink/pale pink colored dress. I have been having the hardest time ever trying to find a dress. We are a month away and I am now in crunch time. My mom has gone to Vegas 2 times this summer and looked for me and nothing. Either too short and not many of that color this summer. Online I have looked all over but all too short, not the right color, or it is good just super expensive.

Here are some that I have found just not modest enough:
Pink ModCloth Dress
Lulu's Layered Pink Dress
Rewarding Moment ModCloth Dress

So...I need your help. Anybody know any good online dress sites? Or any LDS endowed woman have some advice to offer? Anything will do. I am good wearing a shrug, just not too short.
Please comment with your advice, tips, etc. Thanks!!

one difference between men and women.

These are my husband's underwear that he wears to the gym.

Matson's Gym Underwear (That are STILL in his drawer being used)

a little ZOOMED in action.
He (Matson) will probably be livid that I showed the world them. But they have huge holes that look like little birds have been pecking at them. He wouldn't let me throw them away. All I kept hearing was that they "are special/lucky underwear". The funny thing is these are not like $10 a pair underwear or even $3. You can buy a whole pack of them for $9! And who has lucky underwear that isn't some pro sports player or performer? So every week I have been throwing one pair of these bird pecked underwear away, hoping he wouldn't notice. He did though, so I finally bought him a new pack.

This is the same story with his gym socks. They have holes all in the heels and toes, but he will not let me throw them away. Or last year I bought him a new belt because his other belt was literally going to break soon because it was sooo worn out. He wouldn't buy a new one. So I forced him to buy one and put it on right then.

Woman are not like this.
(At least I am not).

If I get a hole in any of my underwear, socks, shirts, camisoles, or anything they go right in with the rags or the trash! It's just not that big of a deal. Just means time to get some new ones!

Can anyone explain this to me? There is no way that a pair of socks is THAT lucky that we have to keep it when little birds have pecked it to death creating billions of holes in it!

(FYI: Little birds have not really pecked our clothing, just a saying).

clean out.

need a fun summer activity?
find a free afternoon, morning, whatever and
go through your grandma's closet or your mom's, aunt's, great aunt's...whoever.
In this post I talked about how we went to Grandma's house and cleaned out her house.
We went through a lot of her clothes. Lots of boxes of clothes were titled "1988", "1995 summer clothing", "1992 Clothes to Keep", etc.
So a lot of trends have been recycled and recycled...so we took some of her clothes that are being recycled today!
Since my Grandma and I are not the same size I really only found swimsuit cover ups.

After washing the clothes, I tried them all and love them!
Here are a few of the fun pieces I found
oh and you are free to make fun of my hilariously horrible mirror pictures
(some are even phone pics)
Loving this romper (already worn it to the pool this summer twice). The ruffles are so cute and the pockets! It seriously looks like Juicy. Thank you 1992 box.
T-shirt style dress thing. I could see chicks buying this at Forever 21, but Grandma bought this in Mazatlan in the 80's or something? So I thought it was a little ugs and made me look huge.
So I added a thin belt and fun swimsuit cover up.
This one is a little Hippie. But still could be cute with a fun summer hat and sandles!
love this romper! so cute. the belt on it is precious and there is a little pocket on the right leg. The only problem is the short length is a little long. If you can't tell I tried them on for you...
See a little long? So I may shorten them. But otherwise totally love it!

Have fun cleaning out your relatives closets and adding to your wardrobe! You never know what you will find!

===horizontal stripes===

my mother has always said that horizontal stripes are a no in the clothing department. you just don't wear them. they make you look chubbier/wider than you really are. and who wants that?

usually i take mother's advice especially since according to the movie Tangled "Mother KNOWS Best" ,right? well recently i've ignored my mother's advice and have purchased horizontal stripes a lot.
this high waisted skirt from White House Black Market, a couple shirts, and some shirts for matson.

i like horizontal stripes now.
especially my new items i was talking about above, that i purchased in Vegas this last weekend.
But...yes there is a but i have come to find that my mother's advice can be true.
KEYWORD: can.
you just gotta pair the horizontally striped clothing item with the right thing.
plus, the thinner the stripes the better.
at least that's my opinion.
